What is holding you back?

What is holding you back?

What excuse are you coming up with today?

These are two great questions.

Is your excuse fear, lack of focus, self-consciousness, money, or stubbornness? We all make choices on how we
spend our time and money, what we eat, and who we hang out with.

Most of the time, fear causes people not to live up to their full potential. Are you ready to take a leap of faith and
trust your instincts? I would like to relate this to an experience I have had where I literally took a leap of faith.

Back in June of 1996, I decided I was going to go make my first skydive. I lived in Arkansas at the time and the
closest place to make a jump was in Skiatook, OK… just north of Tulsa. When I arrived, I was given 3 different
training program options for me to choose from: Tandem, Static Line, or the Accelerated Freefall Program (AFF). I
decided to go with a Static Line jump because it was much cheaper and I thought it was a good place to start. A
static line jump is where your main parachute will open automatically as you leave the airplane. I went through 6
hours of ground school and during my training, my instructor told me it was my responsibly to make sure the static
line was hooked up to the plane. If the static line is not hooked up, your main parachute will not open.

So after a full day of training, it was my turn to go jump! After a short ride to altitude and only minutes prior to me
making the jump, I decided to check to make sure my static line was hooked up. Sure enough, it was. Next, it was
time to open the door for me to get out. My instructor opened the door and looked straight into my eyes, and said
“Are you ready to skydive?” I thought to myself, I better check one more time to make sure my static line is
hooked up. I pulled on the static line and it came completely unhooked from the plane! I actually held the hook in
my hand directly in front of my instructor’s face. You should have seen his expression. I had never seen his eyes
get so big! He immediately grabbed the hook, tied it to one of the seatbelts and then said “Get out!”. I climbed out,
made the jump, and had the absolute best time of my life!

I took a leap of faith and trusted my instincts! If I hadn’t had double checked that my static line was hooked up, I
would have had a malfunction and who knows what would have happened.

I now have over 4000 jumps and I am a National Champion!
Are you ready to take a leap of faith and trust your instincts?
